Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit this website or get in touch, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We keep what we collect to a minimum, and we never sell your information.
Who we are
Holier Than Thou Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs the piercing and tattoo studio at 97 Oldham Street, Manchester, M4 1LW, in the Northern Quarter. We are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 11906725, with our registered office at C/O Atria Accountants Ltd, Imperial House, 79 to 81 Hornby Street, Bury, England, BL9 5BN. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used. You can reach us about anything in this policy at hello@holier-than-thou.co.uk.
The information we collect
This website is mainly here to give you information, so it collects very little on its own. We collect personal information when you choose to share it, in these ways:
- When you email us: the “Email us” link opens your own email app, so your message comes straight to our inbox. We receive your name, your email address and whatever you choose to write.
- When you book: appointments and consultations are handled through our booking tools, including Square and Squarespace. You give your details to them, and we receive the booking information we need to see you, such as your name, contact details and the service you have booked.
- When you make a tattoo enquiry: if you use our tattoo enquiry form, which is a Google Form, we receive the answers and any reference images you send.
- When you visit the studio: to pierce or tattoo you safely and lawfully we take consent and aftercare details in person, including your name, date of birth or age, ID where needed, and relevant health information. That in-studio paperwork sits alongside this website policy.
We do not host a contact form on this site, we do not run a newsletter through it, and the site itself does not set cookies or use third-party analytics to track you.
How we use your information and our lawful basis
Under UK data protection law we need a lawful basis to use your information. We use it to:
- Answer your questions and reply to your enquiry. Our basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- Arrange, confirm and carry out your appointment, and take payment. Our basis is performing our contract with you, the service you have booked.
- Keep the consent, health and aftercare records we are required to keep for piercing and tattooing. Our basis is our legal obligation, and for health information your explicit consent given in the studio.
- Run and protect the studio, for example keeping basic business records. Our basis is our legitimate interest in running the business properly.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers who help us run the studio and this website, and only with what they need to do their job. These include:
- Square and Squarespace, for bookings, payments and gift vouchers.
- Google, where you use our tattoo enquiry form.
- Sanity, which hosts the content shown on this website.
- Our email provider, which carries the messages you send us.
- Our website hosting and content delivery provider, which serves these pages.
These providers act on our instructions, and each has its own privacy policy explaining how it handles your information. We may also share information where the law requires it, for example to comply with a legal obligation or to protect someone’s safety.
Sending information outside the UK
Some of these providers are based outside the UK, or store information outside the UK. Where your information is transferred abroad, we rely on providers that protect it with appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as approved contract terms or an adequacy decision.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not set its own cookies and does not use third-party analytics to track your visit. Where you follow a link to a booking tool, a Google Form or our Instagram, those services may set their own cookies once you are on their pages, under their own policies. If we ever add analytics in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
How long we keep your information
We keep your information only for as long as we need it. Enquiry emails are kept while we are dealing with your query and for a reasonable period afterwards. Booking and payment records are kept for as long as we need them for accounting and tax. Consent and aftercare records for piercing and tattooing are kept for the period our insurance and the relevant rules require. When we no longer need your information, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information. You can ask us to:
- See the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your information, where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
- Restrict or object to how we use it.
- Receive a copy of certain information, or have it moved to another provider.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, where we are relying on your consent.
To exercise any of these rights, just email us at hello@holier-than-thou.co.uk. We will not charge you, and we will reply within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first so we share your information only with you.
How to complain
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when our booking tools or services change. The latest version always lives on this page, and the “Last updated” date at the top shows when we last changed it.
